AMMAN — Lower House Speaker Atef Tarawneh on Wednesday met with the governorates councils’ presidents to discuss decentralisation efforts. The meeting involved head of the Lower House's Legal Committee MP Abdul Monem Odat, head of the Lower House's Administrative Committee MP Ali Hajahjeh, Minister of State for Political and Parlimentary Affairs Musa Maaytah and Minister of State for Legal Affairs Mubarak Abu Yameen.
Tarawneh asked the councils to provide the Lower House with observations and proposals on the Decentralisation Law in order to send them to the government for review, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The speaker said the Decentralisation Law needs amendments to meet the Royal vision of a fair distribution of decision-making and authority granting. He also stressed the importance of setting an adequate budget for the councils to implement their developmental projects.
