AMMAN — Under the patronage of Her Majesty Queen Noor, the Jordan Micro Credit Company (Tamweelcom) recently held a ceremony to mark its 15th anniversary.

The company’s employees and clients attended the ceremony, which took place during the last week of Ramadan.

Speaking at the ceremony, Tamweelcom Chairman Mustafa Nasereddin and CEO Ziyad Al Rifai praised the efforts of the company’s partners in implementing its mission in fighting poverty and unemployment.

They also commended the role of employees in Tamweelcom’s success, which placed it among the top micro-finance companies in the region, according to a Tamweelcom statement sent to The Jordan Times on Sunday.

Some Tamweelcom clients also shared their success stories.

“Thanks to Tamweelcom, I am what I am today, since my financial status improved a lot, and I provided many job opportunities to other girls as well,” said Kawthar Abu Ahmad.

“I feel that I am an effective person in the community,” she added.

Khalid Ibrahim, Tamweelcom’s first-ever client, said he has been dealing with the micro-financer for 15 years.

“I first applied for a JD150 loan in 1999,” he said, adding that he now applies to receive JD3,000 loans.

Nasereddin said Tamweelcom has had a key role in the micro-finance industry in Jordan through applying best international practices.

He said the company expanded its service coverage to reach remote areas by launching “the first mobile branch in the region” in 2013.

Tamweelcom is non-profit organisation with 26 branches in the Kingdom that serves underprivileged Jordanians by funding their small-sized enterprises.
