AMMAN — With the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature has constructed a new marsh pool in the Azraq Wetland Reserve, according to a statement from the Swiss embassy on Thursday.
The marsh pool has contributed to the rehabilitation of 10 per cent of the former oasis, and has doubled the surface area of the wetland. The Azraq Wetland Reserve is located in the heart of the eastern desert.
The reserve provides a natural habitat for numerous aquatic and terrestrial species including the Azraq Killifish Aphanius sirhani, the only true endemic vertebrate species of Jordan, according to the statement.
