AMMAN — Police are currently questioning a 25-year-old man who reportedly murdered his divorced sister in the Jordan Valley for reasons related to so-called family honour over the weekend, official sources said.

The victim was reportedly stabbed multiple times allegedly by her brother while at her home on Friday, a senior official source said.

"The suspect fled the scene and was later arrested by police," the official source added.

The suspect claimed that he killed his sister "to defend his family's honour" because of alleged "immoral behaviour".

A postmortem conducted on the victim by a team of pathologists headed by Ali Shotar indicated that the victim died of multiple stab wounds to her body, a senior medical source said.

“The victim was stabbed 32 times on different parts of her body and was stabbed in the neck,” the medical source told The Jordan Times.

The suspect was ordered detained by the Criminal Court for 15 days at a correctional and rehabilitation centre by the criminal court prosecutor pending further investigations, a senior judicial source told The Jordan Times.

"The criminal court prosecutor is currently questioning the suspect and will hear testimonies from his family to learn more about the circumstances surrounding the incident," the judicial source added.
