AMMAN — Three employees at the Irbid Municipality's market department were injured on Tuesday night when street vendors reportedly attacked them while they were working to remove stalls from the streets. Zuhair Ababneh, head of the market department, told the Jordan News Agency, Petra, that a group of vendors attacked three municipal employees with sticks and stones.
The employees were hospitalised as a result, Ababneh said. He added that municipality employees decided to stop carrying out campaigns to clear street stalls until they are accompanied by security personnel to prevent any possible assaults in the future, Petra reported.
The victims identified eight of the perpetrators who will be arrested, Ababneh said. The municipality has been cracking down on street stalls for around two months within a campaign implemented in response to residents' complaints.
