AMMAN — The Social Security Corporation (SSC), in cooperation with the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army/Military Service Consumer Corporation, have begun distributing food parcels to underprivileged families across the Kingdom.
SSC Spokesperson Musa Subaihi on Sunday said that the corporation’s crisis management team, headed by SSC Director General Hazim Rahahleh, has followed up on the measures designated to implement Defence Order No. 1, which replaces some items of the 2014 Social Security Law.
The decision also allocates 50 per cent of 2020 revenues from maternity insurance to providing aid services for the underprivileged.
The first stage aims to deliver material aid to 100,000 families, he said, noting that the first batch will reach 30,000 families, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
He added that the second stage aims to offer material aid to daily wage workers whose jobs were suspended after the government’s preventative measures were enforced in order to combat the spread of the novel coronavirus.
A few days ago, the corporation launched a platform to receive applications from beneficiaries, he said, noting that tens of thousands of applications have been received and that the requests will be subjected to certain standards to ensure that the assistance is given to those who most need it.
He highlighted that the corporation is also targetting elderly citizens aged 70 years and above and the next stage will include retirees with low pensions.
