AMMAN — Lower House Speaker Atef Tarawneh on Thursday inaugurated the conference and e-voting system at the Lower House, which was implemented in cooperation with the EU as part of the EU Support to Jordanian Democratic Institutions and Development (EU-JDID).
Tarawneh said that the system represents a real partnership with the EU, noting that the first phase of the project positively reflected on the working mechanism of the Lower House through facilitating voting and providing session agendas for MPs electronically, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
For his part, EU Ambassador to Jordan Andrea Fontana stressed that the system aims at enhancing the capability and performance of the Lower House while implementing its legislative and monitoring roles.
EU-JDID aims at supporting Jordan’s reform process towards consolidation of democracy and at promoting inclusiveness of national policy and decision-making processes, according to democracy-support.eu/jordan/.
