Spain honours human rights icon Asma Khader posthumously

AMMAN — Former minister Asma Khader has been posthumously conferred with Spain’s prestigious award the Order of Civil Merit in honour of her contributions in the field of women’s affairs and human rights.
During a ceremony on Monday, Spanish Ambassador in Jordan Aranzazu Bañon Davalos presented the medal, considered one of the most prestigious awards given to eminent personalities, to Khader’s daughter Ruba Khader, according to an embassy statement.
Former prime minister Taher Masri, Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs Mousa Maaitah, Minister of State for Legal Affairs Wafa Bani Mustafa, and a number of foreign ambassadors attended the event.
In her speech, the ambassador praised Khader’s achievements and expressed gratitude to her tireless efforts.
