AMMAN — The Sisterhood Is Global Institute (SIGI) on Sunday said six women were murder victims in the second-third of 2016.
During the May-August period of the year, three women were victims of shooting death incidents, two women were killed in stabbing incidents and one woman was hanged.
In terms of nationalities, the victims were two Syrians and four Jordanians, SIGI said in a statement e-mailed to The Jordan Times.
As for the identity of the perpetrators, husbands committed two crimes, a father committed one crime and a son was responsible for one death, while the perpetrators were not identified in the other two cases.
In May, a Syrian woman in her thirties was found hanged with a headscarf in her tent, where she lived with her family in the Northern Jordan Valley’s Kraimeh area, SIGI said, adding that a man reportedly stabbed to death his 57-year-old mother in Madaba.
In June, a man allegedly killed his Syrian wife, in her thirties, by stabbing her to death in Mafraq, the institute said, adding that a man purportedly killed his wife, 64, son, 40, and daughter, 28, by shooting them to death in Amman’s Hashemi Shamali neighbourhood.
The last crime covered in the report took place this week, and involved the shooting death of a woman and the injury of her husband, SIGI said.
The case is still being investigated.
The institute also noted that 12 women were murder victims in the first four months of 2016.
