AMMAN — Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Nasser Shraideh on Saturday expressed appreciation for the US government and Congress, which recently endorsed a 2022 aid package for Jordan with a value of around $1.65 billion.
The assistance is aimed to support the Kingdom and its development and reform programmes during 2022, in light of the challenges facing the national economy, including those imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic and the hosting of Syrian refugees, according to a ministry statement.
Shraideh stressed that approving this assistance is a result of His Majesty King Abdullah's efforts and endeavours with the US administration and Congress and as part of securing and endorsing the aid package for Jordan.
The minister also referred to the "distinguished and historical" ties between Jordan and the US in all fields and the strategic partnership governing these relations.
He also stressed the "deep-rooted and solid" relations of the strategic Jordan-US partnership, commending the US support for the development process and for the Kingdom over the past years to help it face the repercussions resulting from regional unrest, the hosting of Syrian refugees and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, Jordan's Ambassador to the US Dina Kawar took to Twitter to express gratitude for this support.
Kawar expressed appreciation for the support endorsed by the US Congress for the Kingdom as part of the 2020 budget, which will contribute to alleviating the burdens and challenges facing Jordan.
She also described Jordan-US ties as "deep-rooted and historical" that grow year after year in service of the interests of the "two friendly peoples and countries".
