Showers, fall in temperatures forecast for weekend

AMMAN — A slight drop in temperatures is expected on Friday with cold weather and scattered showers throughout the Kingdom, including Aqaba, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said on Thursday.

Rain may be heavy at night and accompanied by thunder and hail in some areas, which is forecast to lead to flooding in valleys and low-lying areas.

Winds are expected to be light to moderate and may raise dust in the desert areas, according to a JMD statement.

Another drop in temperatures is forecast for Saturday which is expected to witness cold and cloudy weather in most regions of the country including Aqaba.

Heavy rain is also expected on Saturday and may be accompanied by thunder and hail in some areas, which could lead to flooding in low-lying areas.

Winds will be south-westerly with strong gusts in the desert areas which are forecast to raise dust.

Temperatures in Amman on Friday will range between a high of 16°C and low of 11°C, while in Aqaba, daytime temperatures are expected to be around 28°C during the day, dropping to 19°C at night.

On Saturday, the capital will see temperatures ranging between 14°C and 6°C, while the port city of Aqaba will register a high of 25°C and low of 15°C.
