AMMAN — Seven people were injured late Wednesday night from festive shooting during a wedding in the Duleil area near Zarqa, some 22km east of the capital, a senior police source said Thursday.
One person was arrested for allegedly firing from a pump-action gun to celebrate the wedding, the official added.
“We have arrested a man that witnesses said shot several rounds during the wedding,” he told The Jordan Times.
The official noted that “two of the injured are listed in fair condition, while the injuries of the remaining five were superficial.”
The suspect was referred to the criminal prosecutor for further questioning.
This is the second incident related to festive firing to occur in the Kingdom in less than a week.
An 11-year-old boy was struck in the head by a stray bullet from a nearby wedding in the capital’s Ashrafiyeh suburb last weekend.
A total of 106 festive firing cases were recorded between 2007 and 2010, resulting in the deaths of five people and the injury of 57 others.
There are 117,000 licensed weapons of different types in Jordan, according to recent Interior Ministry figures.
