AMMAN — The Senate on Thursday approved the draft of the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) law as referred from the Lower House, while returning the draft of the Integrity and Anti-Corruption (IACC) law to the Lower House with amendments.
The draft GAM law stipulates that the Amman mayor is appointed by the Cabinet, and the residents of Amman have the right to elect two-thirds of the members of the GAM Council, in addition to designating a 25 per cent quota for women, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The Senate's amendments to the IACC draft included rejection to authorise the IACC to make a decision on putting corruption suspects in custody, seizing their movable property or banning their travel without prior judicial permission.
