Security court issues verdict in several terror cases

AMMAN — The State Security Court (SSC) on Monday issued verdicts in cases against eight defendants, convicting them of joining, promoting and recruiting for the Daesh terrorist group.

In two separate cases, the court sentenced two men to five-year prison terms with hard labour for attempting to join Daesh. 

In another case, the defendant was sentenced to three years in prison for publishing pro-Daesh propaganda online, but the sentence was then commuted to one-and-a-half years starting from his detention date.

Three others were sentenced to three-year, five-year and seven-year prison terms for recruiting personnel to join Daesh.

The SSC also sentenced another man to a 15-year prison term for joining the terror group and recruiting personnel to follow suit.

In another case, a defendant was sentenced to 15 years in prison for importing weapons and ammunition for illegal use.

Moreover, another man will be imprisoned for five years for publishing pro-Daesh propaganda online. 

The SSC’s rulings are in line with the new amendments to the Anti-Terrorism Law.
