Second stage of fibre optic network project in north begins

AMMAN — The second stage of the ICT Ministry’s fibre optic network project in the Kingdom’s northern governorates has started, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Monday.
ICT Minister Majd Shweikeh attended the inauguration ceremony in Jerash, according to Petra. The network, which will cover all governorates, aims to connect 3,600 educational institutes across the entire Kingdom, Shweikeh said.
The grid will also link hospitals and healthcare centres with one another, as well as public departments throughout the country, she added.
During the second stage of the project in the northern region, some 664 facilities will be connected in Irbid, Ajloun, Jerash and Mafraq, according to Petra.
The first stage of the northern region project saw 500 facilities interconnected in Irbid, Mafraq and Ramtha.
