Second phase of Network of Local Governments project launched

AMMAN — The Norwegian Embassy, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), on Monday launched the second phase of the Network of Local Governments project, which targets six governorates: Irbid, Ajloun, Balqa, Madaba, Aqaba and Tafileh, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The project seeks to modernise institutions’ internal systems to improve their responsiveness and accountability in order to enhance the representation of youth, women and persons with disabilities in provincial and municipal councils.
The ceremony was attended by President of the Independent Election Commission Khaled Kalaldeh, Secretary General of the Ministry of Local Administration Hussein Mheidat, President of the University of Jordan Nathir Obeidat, Norwegian Ambassador to Jordan Espen Lindback and UNDP Representative to Jordan Randa Abu Al Hassan.
Ambassador Lindback said that strong local governance is critical to the delivery of quality public services, adding that Norway is pleased to continue its support for this project.
