AMMAN — Investment Minister Kholoud Saqqaf and Canada's Senate Speaker George Furey on Friday held talks in Amman over enhancing economic ties and increasing investment between the two countries.

There have been "many" agreements to strengthen economic cooperation signed between Jordan and Canada, Saqqaf said. Such agreements include the free trade agreement, which is the first to be signed between Canada and an Arab country, the double taxation prevention agreement and the protection and encouragement agreement.

The minister said that agreements between the two countries have a major role in "revitalising" bilateral trade and developing partnerships, given Canada's expertise in economic development and enhancing the investment environment, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The minister noted that Canada is one of the Kingdom’s target countries in the Investment Ministry’s Investment Promotion Strategy for 2023-2026.

The government, in implementation of Royal directives, seeks to make Jordan a destination for investments, and has thus introduced several reforms to the business environment, Saqqaf said.

For his part, Furey commended Jordan's efforts in improving the economy and the investment environment, noting that Jordan is a "safe" destination for investment thanks to the Kingdom’s security, stability and encouraging investment environment.
