AMMAN — Energy Minister Ibrahim Saif on Tuesday called on the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) to exert efforts to restore electricity in all areas that witnessed disruptions.
During a visit to the Marka substation, he asked NEPCO’s employees working at the facility to speed up the maintenance of a transformer, one of three that went down due to overload during the current heatwave, and continue implementing immediate technical solutions to avoid any possible power failures, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The other two transformers are now operating after their failure led to power cuts in several areas in east Amman. The load on the national power grid reached around 3,290MW over the past two days, as many air conditioners and fans were on in Jordan to mitigate the effect of the heatwave, with temperatures exceeding 40°C.
