AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and Commissioner General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) Philippe Lazzarini on Monday discussed preparations for the international conference that the Kingdom and Sweden will organise in cooperation with the agency to rally financial and political support for UNRWA.
Safadi and Lazzarini stressed the importance of the conference, which will be held before the end of 2022, in adopting effective strategies and plans to ensure that UNRWA continues to provide vital services to Palestinian refugees pertaining to health, education and relief, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.
They also highlighted the urgency of meeting the needs of the Gaza Strip and the process of reconstruction there.
Lazzarini valued Jordanian efforts to rally international support for UNRWA, emphasising the role Jordan plays in cooperation with the international community to ensure the continuation of providing support to the agency and bridge its financial deficit.
They both agreed to maintain coordination and consultation with Sweden and members of the Stockholm Group to mobilise international efforts to enable the agency to continue providing its core essential services in accordance with its UN mandate.
