AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Monday evening held bilateral talks in a meeting that followed the Arab Ministerial Contact Group meeting with Lavrov to discuss ways to solve the Ukrainian crisis.

The two ministers discussed relations between the countries in various fields and their future prospects, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Safadi and Lavrov also discussed a set of regional issues, including the Palestinian cause, and efforts to reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis.

Safadi stressed the need to stop all illegal Israeli measures that undermine opportunities to reach the envisioned two-state solution, which the two ministers agreed is the only way to achieve a just and comprehensive peace.

Safadi also stressed the need to stop provocative measures and respect the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem and its holy sites to prevent escalation, especially during Ramadan.

Safadi called for launching serious and effective work in order to find political grounds to achieve a just peace, which is a regional and international necessity.

The two ministers also called for intensified work to reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis that would end suffering, restore security and stability to Syria, preserve its unity, and create voluntary and safe conditions for the return of refugees.
