AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Thursday met with High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission Josep Borrell on the margins of the EU-Southern Neighbourhood ministerial meeting in Barcelona.

Safadi discussed bolstering Jordan-EU partnership and multisector cooperation, stressing the importance of joint actions to counter global terrorism, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

The foreign minister also stressed the need to mitigate the current conditions caused by the pandemic, noting that “the pandemic indeed posed some challenges, yet it also shed light on the irreplaceability of collaborative work”.

Touching on regional developments, most notably the Palestinian cause, Safadi expressed appreciation towards the EU’s stance towards the two-state solution, which guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The foreign minister also voiced appreciation to the EU’s efforts in resolving regional issues, including both the Syrian and Libyan crises.

Borrell reaffirmed the partnership between Jordan and the EU, lauding the role of His Majesty King Abdullah in ensuring regional security and stability.
