AMMAN — Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Sunday telephoned his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shukri as part of continued consultation and coordination between the two countries over means to enhance cooperation and coordinate stances related to regional developments in a way that serves Arab causes and realises regional security and stability.

Discussing the latest developments in the Palestinian issue, both ministers stressed their countries' unaltered positions rejecting the Israeli annexation of Palestinian lands, which constitutes a violation against international law and undermines opportunities to reach just peace, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

Safadi and Shukri also voiced their "full support" to Palestinians in their endeavours to attain their full legitimate rights, mainly their rights to freedom and statehood based on the two-state solution, relevant international resolutions and the Arab peace initiative.

The two ministers also went over developments in efforts to reach an agreement regarding the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.

In this regard, Safadi reiterated the importance of not taking any unilateral steps to fill the dam and the necessity of reaching an agreement that preserves the rights of Egypt in the Nile and the rights of all parties according to international law.

Talks also covered updates regarding the Libyan crisis and efforts to reach a political solution.

The two ministers highlighted the significance of joining forces to resolve the crisis politically with the consensus of all Libyan parties "as soon as possible" in a way that guarantees the security, stability, sovereignty and unity of Libya and the interests of its people.

Safadi called for exerting "every possible effort" to reach a ceasefire and impeding factors that exacerbate the crisis and its repercussions on the North African country, its neighbouring nations and the region as a whole.

Meanwhile, he voiced the Kingdom’s "full support" to Egypt in countering any threat to its security and stability, noting that "the security of Egypt is the security of Jordan and the base of the regional security and stability”.

Both ministers also emphasised the need to continue consultation and coordination in a way that reflects the “strategic, brotherly and deep-rooted” relations between Amman and Cairo under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah and President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi.
