AMMAN — Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and China’s Special Envoy for Syria Xie Xiaoyan on Sunday discussed the outcomes of the recent Brussels conference and efforts to realise a political solution to the Syrian crisis.

The 3rd Brussels conference was held earlier this month under the title “Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region”, organised by the EU and the UN.

Safadi affirmed the need for focusing international efforts on reaching a political solution to the Syrian crisis; one that is accepted by the Syrian people, maintains Syria’s unity, integrity and cohesion, restores peace and stability to the country and facilitates the voluntary return of refugees to their country.

The two parties agreed that there can be no military solution to the Syria crisis, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Both Safadi and Xie underlined the need for a political solution to the Syrian crisis on the basis of Geneva talks, according to Petra.

The minister also called on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities towards the Syrian refugees, including the hundreds of thousands in Jordan.

On the issue of the Rukban camp for internally displaced persons (IDPs), Safadi reiterated that it is no longer Jordan’s responsibility that aid delivery via Damascus is now possible.

Safadi stressed that the solution to the Rukban camp, located on the Syrian side of the border with Jordan, is dismantling the camp and safeguarding the return of refugees to their cities and villages, which have now been liberated from Daesh’s control.

Xie voiced China's appreciation for Jordanian humanitarian assistance to refugees, expressing Beijing's keenness on enhancing its relations with Amman in all fields.
