AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Wednesday received a phone call from US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, which focused on efforts exerted to reach a ceasefire in Gaza and exchange prisoners and hostages, in addition to efforts to deliver adequate and immediate humanitarian assistance to the besieged strip.

Safadi stressed the need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, an end to the Israeli aggression and delivery of aid into the war-torn strip, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

Both top diplomats agreed on the "inadequacy" of humanitarian assistance into Gaza, stressing the need for immediate steps to ensure the delivery of sufficient aid to the Palestinians in the besieged coastal enclave, according to Petra.

They also discussed the situation in Jerusalem and stressed the importance of de-escalation especially with the holy month of Ramadan approaching, Petra said.

Safadi underlined the importance for Israel to lift restrictions imposed on the freedom of worship and access to the Al Aqsa Mosque/ Al Haram Al Sharif.
