AMMAN — Jordanian actress Saba Mubarak has won the Best Actress Award at the Silk Road International Film Festival for her role in "The Guest", which also won the Best Feature Film Award, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Tuesday.
The fifth edition of the festival, which took place in Dublin, Ireland between March 8 and 12, focused on productions from countries where the ancient trade route, the Silk Road, used to pass through, connecting Asia, the Middle East, Africa, the Mediterranean Sea and Europe.
"The Guest", which was written and directed by Turkish director Andaç Haznedaroğlu, starred Saba Mubarak and young Rawan Skaff.
The film tells the story of 10-year-old Lena, who lost her family in the war and made her way to Turkey with her little sister and their neighbour Meryem, along with other immigrants.
Apart from Mubarak, all the actors were Syrian refugees acting for the very first time.
The movie is a joint production by the Turkish companies Andac Film Productions, Istanbul Digital, Istanbul Film Productions and the Jordanian company Pan East Media.
It also received financial support from the Turkish ministry of culture and tourism and the show is currently distributed in the Middle East by the company MAD Solutions.
