AMMAN — The Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN) is set to launch the sixth session of the Regional Reserve Leaders Forum on September 6.

The forum, which will continue until September 22, includes tours to RSCN-managed nature reserves to capture the society’s management standards and to acquaint participants with the daily operations at reserves, in addition to interactive dialogues with relevant partners from various organisations.

The forum will also encompass a fieldwork programme, according to an RSCN statement sent to The Jordan Times on Wednesday.

The forum seeks to provide participants with a platform to exchange experience and knowledge, and to work collectively to bring about positive change through touching upon a range of themes, including protected areas management and biodiversity protection outside of the reserves, the statement said.

Speaking with The Jordan Times on Thursday, Ajloun Forest Reserve Manager Othman Tawalbeh said that “the regional forum will serve as a key opportunity to explore protected area management trends and principles”.

He added that the forum demonstrates RSCN’s long-standing experience in reserve management and protection at the regional and international levels, noting that forum activities will take place in the Arabic language, and that participants will join in from Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia.

The RSCN forum is a leading model for the conservation of protected areas which will equip participants with valuable knowledge, according to Tawalbeh, noting that the field visit will kick off in the Ajloun Forest Reserve.
