AMMAN — The Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN) on Sunday received 60 Arabian Oryx coming from the UAE.

The move, part of a project meant to release a herd of Arabian Oryx into Jordan’s Shaumari Wildlife Reserve (SWR), is funded by the Environment Agency-Abu Dhabi (EAD) (Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Arabian Oryx Reintroduction Programme).

Living in the SWR, the Arabian Oryx is the most rare species in the Kingdom’s wildlife, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

RSCN President Khaled Irani expressed thanks to the EAD, lauding their ongoing efforts in support of the RSCN.

He also highlighted the importance of the project in improving the genetic structure of the existing herd of Arabian Oryx.
