AMMAN — The Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN), maintains its commitment to its core mission of conserving Jordan’s biodiversity and protecting the local wildlife and natural resources.

World Wildlife Day (WWD), which falls annually on March 3, is affiliated with celebrating and raising awareness of wild animals and plants, highlighting their impact on people's lives and the well-being of the planet, the initiative’s official website said.

The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) was signed on the same day in 1973.
“All RSCN reserves are committed to safeguarding local wildlife areas along with flora and fauna,” Othman Tawalbah, director of Ajloun Forest Reserve, told The Jordan Times.

Through activities and public awareness programmes, Ajloun Forest Reserve promotes a functional ecosystem and sustainable protected areas, he added.

The RSCN is committed to creating, managing and advocating for a national network of protected areas to conserve Jordan’s biodiversity and support local community development, according to an RSCN statement made available to The Jordan Times.
“World Wildlife Day is an opportunity to celebrate the many beautiful and varied forms of wild fauna and flora and to raise awareness of the multitude of benefits that their conservation provides to people,” according to the UN website.

This year, WWD is celebrated under the theme “Partnerships for wildlife conservation” in recognition of the global collaborative efforts to conserve wildlife.
