By JT - Apr 28,2023 - Last updated at Apr 28,2023

AMMAN — The Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN) on Thursday celebrated its 57th anniversary of establishment. The society today is among the biggest institutions at the regional level in administrating nature reserves, protecting biodiversity and wildlife, and developing local communities, according to an RSCN statement. His Majesty the late King Hussein chaired the society as an honorary president upon its establishment. All of the society's work is based on protecting wildlife in protected natural areas, and working effectively with the government, the local community and relevant organisations to protect the Kingdom's natural livestock and vegetation. The RSCN won several awards as the Dana Biosphere Reserve was selected for the second time on the New York Times 2022 list of destinations worth visiting, whereas the Azraq Wetlands Reserve also won an award among the 100 best sustainable tourist sites worldwide.
