AMMAN — US Ambassador Alice G. Wells and Health Minister Ali Hiasat on Thursday inaugurated the $500,000 rehabilitation and expansion of the Hussainya Comprehensive Health Centre in Maan.
The new and improved state-of-the art health centre offers general practice units, emergency departments and specialty services, according to a US embassy statement e-mailed to The Jordan Times on Saturday.
“I am heartened by the emphasis on women’s health,” the statement quoted Wells as saying.
“Access to adequate healthcare is crucial, and I hope that men, women, and children in the area will take full advantage of the new resource in their neighbourhood, not just for emergencies, but to maintain regular check-ups,” she added.
Wells also met public officials in the governorate, including Maan Governor Ghaleb Shamayleh and Maan Mayor Majed Sharari to discuss issues of common interest, particularly in areas of investment, job creation opportunities and education in the region, the statement said.
In addition, the ambassador met with members of the Maan Chamber of Commerce and visited Al Hussein Bin Talal University where she was received by its president, Taha Khamis, and students.
