AMMAN — Former Jordanian footballer Moayad Saleem was in a stable condition on Saturday after a car accident in Amman on Friday, officials at his former club Faisali and the Jordan Football Association (JFA) confirmed.
Saleem was standing outside his vehicle to take out some items when he was hit by a car in Amman’s Abu Nseir area, said Mofeed Hassouneh, the head of the JFA's media department.
“Thank God he did not suffer any fractures. He only received bruises to different parts of his body and the X-ray scan did not show any serious injuries,” he told The Jordan Times over the phone.
Hassouneh said Saleem was one of the most important footballers in both Faisali and the national team, representing the Kingdom for 10 years.
He also won several local titles with his club and contributed to winning two Asian trophies.
“His talent on the pitch and his high moral values earned him the admiration of every football fan in Jordan. Several members of the JFA and representatives of local football clubs visited him in hospital,” Hassouneh added.
Ramzi Abu Sundod, secretary general of Faisali, said the player has been receiving medical treatment at the University of Jordan Hospital in Amman.
“He was an important pillar of the club and all members of Faisali visited him,” he added.
Saleem played abroad also in Bahrain and Palestine and he is currently taking part in several coaching courses, according to Hassouneh.
Meanwhile, football fans and officials in Jordan took to social media to wish the retired player a speedy recovery.
Ahmad Qtaishat, of the JFA, posted an update on Saleem's condition on Facebook.
“Thank God, Moayad is in the best and stable condition. Pray for him to recover,” he wrote.
