Razzaz, Saudi audit bureau president agree to exchange expertise

AMMAN — Jordan on Thursday expressed its readiness to provide Saudi Arabia with expertise related to auditing during a meeting with President of the Saudi General Auditing Bureau (GAB) Hussam Alangari. 

During the meeting, Prime Minister Omar Razzaz said that the government is committed to supporting monitoring institutions in Jordan and enhancing their roles in preserving public money, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Razzaz said that Audit Bureau reports will be issued quarterly to deal with violations quickly, in a way that reflects the government’s seriousness over public money and curbing corruption. 

Alangari highlighted the importance of cooperation and coordination with the Audit Bureau, adding that both countries’ bureaus see eye-to-eye on various issues in their fields.

Audit Bureau President Abed Kharabsheh, said that watchdog departments have surpassed their traditional role of financial and administrative monitoring, where their tasks now include performance assessment and contributing to achieving sustainable development goals. 

Also on Thursday, the GAB and the Audit Bureau signed a memorandum of understanding to expand cooperation in the auditing field, Petra added.

Kharabsheh said that the memo includes the exchange of expertise, cooperational research projects and activities of mutual interest, noting that the agreement will go into effect 30 days after both sides notify eachother that their respective governments have approved the memo. 

Alangari said that the GAB’s cooperation with its Jordanian counterpart started years ago, and employees of both institutions have exchanged visits and participated in various training programmes. 

Senate President Faisal Fayez also met with Alangari over means to further enhance Jordanian-Saudi ties at various levels, particularly the political and economic, in a way that serves both countries’ interests, according to Petra.
