AMMAN — Prime Minister Omar Razzaz on Monday inaugurated King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Street linking Jordan to Saudi Arabia.

The JD200 million project was funded by the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD).

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Saudi Ambassador to Jordan Prince Khaled Bin Faisal Bin Turki, Minister of Public Works and Housing Falah Omoush and Deputy Chairman of the Board of the SFD Khalid Khudairi, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The project, which was built by both Jordanian and Saudi contractors, is meant to facilitate regional trade and movement.

It included rehabilitating the highway that links Zarqa with the Jordanian-Saudi border by widening the road linking the intersections of Jafr, Muwagar and the free zones to four lanes.

Razzaz said that the street reflected the historical and strategic Jordanian-Saudi ties, voicing his appreciation to Saudi King Salman for his ongoing support to Jordan.

He also thanked Prince Khaled Bin Faisal Bin Turki for his role in improving relations between the two kingdoms.

Razzaz added that the inauguration of the street represented Jordan’s desire to achieve a productive state in terms of infrastructure. He also said the road would increase trade volume among Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the Arab Gulf countries.

Omoush added that the road was built to international standards to ensure its capacity and safety.

Khudairi conveyed King Salman’s greetings to His Majesty King Abdullah and the Jordanian people, stressing Saudi Arabia’s pride in developing projects that Jordanians implemented.

He also said that the SFD is a key partner in supporting Jordan’s development, to “positively” reflect on Jordanians’ living standards.
