Rain, thunderstorms forecast for Sunday

AMMAN — The weather on Sunday is forecast to be relatively hot as temperatures range between four to six degrees above average for this time of year, with easterly moderate to brisk winds, according to the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD).

A thunderstorm is likely to occur on Sunday afternoon, in the southeast of the Kingdom, the JMD said in its weather forecast, noting that the storm could extend to other areas of the Kingdom.

On Monday, the JMD forecasts a slight increase in temperatures with clouds covering most parts of the Kingdom, bringing the possibility of showers to different areas, including Aqaba, where rainfall might lead to heavy thunderstorms. 

The JMD expects torrents and floods in valleys and low areas, and south-easterly moderate to brisk winds, which could raise dust in badia regions. 

The thunderstorms are forecast to continue on Tuesday, the JMD said, warning this week of slippery roads, torrents, floods and low visibility due to dust in badia areas. 

On Sunday, temperatures in Amman are expected to see a high of 34°C during the day and a low of 20°C at night. On Monday and Tuesday, temperatures are predicted to be between 35°C and 22°C, according to the JMD.

In Zarqa, temperatures on Sunday are forecast between 36°C and 23°C, while on Monday they are expected to range between 38°C and 25°C and between 37°C and 25°C on Tuesday.

In Aqaba, Sunday temperatures are expected to range between 37°C and 26°C, while on Monday and Tuesday they are forecast to be between 38°C and 27°C, the weather department said.
