AMMAN — Coordination is under way between the Jordan Hijaz Railway Corporation (JHRC) and the Turkish State Railways to implement a railway project to ferry passengers from Amman and Zarqa to Queen Alia International Airport.
JHRC announced on Tuesday that the project to increase its capacity is supported by the Development Bank of Turkey, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
JHRC Director General Salah Louzi said the corporation has held meetings with the Turkish side to send technicians from Turkey in order to evaluate the project and estimate its financial cost.
"The corporation has in the past three years worked on modernising its trains and upgrading parts of the railway," he said.
Louzi noted that the JHRC has requested the government to allocate JD70 million from the Gulf Cooperation Council grant to enable the transport of grains from Aqaba to silos in Jweideh.
On the other hand, the corporation will soon float a tender to establish 190 commercial warehouses near the entrance of Zarqa Refugee Camp, according to Petra.
