Queen Rania visits Khreibet Al Souq charity

AMMAN (JT) — Her Majesty Queen Rania on Wednesday paid a visit to the Khreibet Al Souq Women’s Charity Association and met with its board members and beneficiaries. 

The Queen also checked on the living condition of several families in the area, according to a statement from her office. 

Upon her arrival at the association, Queen Rania was received by its chairman, Tamam Ajaleen, and project manager, Nadia Ismail, who briefed her on the charity’s activities and several expansions since its inauguration in 1997.

Later, Her Majesty met with the association’s board of directors and was briefed on its mandate, achievements to date and future plans, the statement said. 

Ismail elaborated on the association’s objectives, which include increasing families’ income through providing income-generating projects, supporting and empowering the youth sector, increasing production levels through conducting vocational training, enhancing cultural and social levels by offering diverse lectures and workshops, and supporting underprivileged families and the local community through financial and in-kind support. 

While at the association, Her Majesty toured the facilities and chatted with a group of young people from the area, who told her how its programmes help them develop skills in order to find employment or start their own projects.

Projects implemented by the association include a productive kitchen, which produces traditional Arabic sweets among other dishes, and a library that offers a learning space for children and parents alike, according to the statement.

The Queen also attended part of a literacy class for women in the community and spoke with them about the benefits of these lessons and how what they learn reflects on their daily lives. 

After her visit and meeting, Her Majesty passed by the house of Mervat Awwad (Um Ahmad), a mother of four, whose family is one of the association’s beneficiaries.
