AMMAN — The International Airport Group said on Sunday that Queen Alia International Airport, "for the first time in its history", welcomed 9,201,269 passengers in 2023, marking a 17.4% increase from the figures recorded in 2022.

In a statement released on Sunday, the group revealed that the airport handled 77.696 aircraft movements, while air cargo movements reached 67,366 tonnes, representing an increase of 13.7 per cent and 9.9 per cent respectively over the previous year, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

During December of last year, the airport received 643,048 passengers and dealt with 5,582 aircraft movements which constituted a decrease of 2.6 per cent and 1.5 per cent respectively, compared with  2022.

The group attributed the "positive" statistics to the cooperation with its strategic partners the Ministry of Tourism, and Jordan Tourism Board, according to Petra.

Throughout 2023, local, regional, and international airlines established 11 new and updated air routes through Queen Alia International Airport, bringing the total number of scheduled destinations to 81, the group said.
Partnerships were also formed with new airlines, bringing the total number of passenger and cargo airlines through the airport to 44 in 2023.
