AMMAN — Official statistics issued by the Airport International Group revealed that Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) received 1,053,225 passengers (PAX) during August 2019, indicating a 5.1 per cent surge set against the same month last year.
This achievement marks an “unprecedented” record for passengers passing through QAIA in a single month, according to a statement from the Airport International Group on Sunday.
Over the course of the month, QAIA witnessed 8,555 aircraft movements (ACM) and handled 8,230 tonnes of cargo, registering a 3-per cent increase and a 1.5-per cent decrease, respectively.
From the beginning of the year until the end of August, year-to-date (YTD) PAX figures came in at 6,161,786, rising by 6.2 per cent when compared with the same period in 2018.
In tandem, YTD ACM amounted to 54,495, up by 4.1 per cent, whereas YTD cargo totalled 66,851, down by 3.1 per cent.
“This August, we have attained yet another proud accomplishment by welcoming the largest number of passengers Queen Alia International Airport has ever seen in one month. This positive result is mainly led by the conclusion of the summer holidays, as well as Hajj [the greater Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca] and Eid Al Adha, during which people visit their families and loved ones or take the opportunity to vacation abroad,” Airport International Group CEO Kjeld Binger was quoted in the statement as saying.
