AMMAN — Thirty Jordanian public sector middle managers successfully completed a comprehensive leadership programme and graduated on Monday at a special ceremony.
Minister of Public Sector Development Khleef Al Khawaldeh and USAID-funded Fiscal Reform II Project (FRP II) Chief of Party Roberto Toso attended the graduation, according to a statement from the ministry.
Supported by USAID’s FRP II, the leadership programme aims to build the capacity of the government’s middle management professionals in strategic planning, project management, leadership skills, team building, human resource management and negotiations, among other focus areas.
With the completion of the latest cycle, the programme has trained 70 Jordanian public sector professionals in three consecutive cycles. Women professionals represent more than 20 per cent of the graduates.
Addressing the graduates, both Khawaldeh and Toso congratulated them on completing the programme and expressed their optimism that the new skills they have acquired will reflect positively on government performance in general.
“The success of public administration is directly linked to the degree of satisfaction of Jordanian citizens who are the recipients of government services across the Kingdom,” the statement quoted the minister as saying.
“This success can only be achieved through the adoption of best practices in governance, leadership at all levels and the commitment and professionalism of government employees like yourselves,” Khawaldeh told the graduates.
He noted that building the capacity of the public sector through “such a comprehensive Leadership Programme” is testimony to the government’s strong belief in investing in its future leaders.
“I am confident that your respective institutions will benefit hugely from your new experiences and skills... You are agents of positive change on the ground,” Toso noted.
