Public departments urged to connect to e-payment system

AMMAN — Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour on Tuesday requested ministries and other public institutions to embark on necessary measures to connect to the online payment system launched by the Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ).

In a circular sent to all public agencies, Ensour said the e-payment system facilitates and accelerates the payment of receipts, fees and fines by linking public agencies with banks and their ATMs, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The premier also said that the online payment system is a step forward in the move towards e-government, according to Petra.

The CBJ officially launched the e-FAWATEERcom system in June to help citizens check and pay their bills electronically via different paying outlets.

In a statement issued at the time, CBJ said the Jordan Customs Department and the three telecommunications companies for landline, mobile and Internet (Umniah, Zain Jordan and Orange Jordan) have also linked to the system.

According to the statement, “meetings between officials from CBJ and the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology resulted in linking all e-government services to the system.”

e-FAWATEERcom is a central system that provides reviewing and paying bills and other services electronically through linking public and private institutions in various sectors with banks and paying service providers.

The system provides access to all electronic payment methods related to banks such as branches, ATMs, banking telephone and Internet, and paying through mobile and kiosk devices.

This procedure enables citizens to pay all their bills 24/7, easily and safely.
