AMMAN — HRH Princess Muna, President of the Jordanian Nursing Council (JNC), and patron for nursing and midwifery in the eastern Mediterranean region, on Tuesday congratulated nursing and midwifery professionals on the occasion of the World Health Organisation's (WHO) declaration of  2020 as the International Year of the Nurse and Midwife.

The announcement aims to develop the next generation of young nurses and midwives as practitioners, specialists and leaders in raising the quality of health services, the Jordan News Agency, Petra reported.

The princess commended the "essential role" that nurses and midwives play in providing health services.

Marking the occasion, the JNC, in coordination with its partners from the public and private sectors and the Jordan Nurses and Midwives Council, affirmed that they will continue developing the nursing and midwifery professions by qualifying a generation of leaders who practise them.

The council and its partners will contribute to the development of regulations and legislations governing the profession, and the recognition and institutionalisation of specialised roles in the public and private sectors to improve healthcare outcomes, Petra reported.
