Princess Muna attends 5th Global Forum on Human Resources for Health

AMMAN — HRH Princess Muna, president of the Jordanian Nursing Council (JNC), has participated in the Fifth Global Forum on Human Resources for Health, which was held at World Health Organisation (WHO) headquarters in Geneva. 

In a statement on Monday, cited by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, the JNC said that the forum was held under the theme of "Protecting and investing in the health workforce", and saw the participation of health leaders, health policy makers and partners from other sectors.

Princess Muna spoke of the importance of the WHO's role, calling on participating countries to support the organisation’s work.

The Princess also stressed the importance of protecting and optimally investing in healthcare workers to enable them to overcome the challenges facing the health sector’s workforce.

The world’s heath systems must be developed in order to achieve universal health coverage, she said, reiterating the importance of protecting and investing in the sector’s workforce.

Princess Muna met with Director-General of the WHO Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, as well as several other leaders of the organisation, to discuss enhancing relations and the best methods of supporting healthcare in Jordan. 

During the forum, Ghebreyesus stressed that countries around the world need to take urgent action to protect and invest in health workers by improving working conditions and wages, increasing investment in the workforce’s education and adjusting roles to meet the population’s needs and the requirements of the health system. This endeavour requires the cooperation of all sectors, not just the health sector, he added.

Under WHO’s efforts to strengthen the health sector’s workforce, Ghebreyesus called for agreements to be signed between governments and ministries of health to regulate the migration of health workers, ensure adequate availability of health workers and guarantee that the WHO’s Code of Practice on Global Ethical Recruitment of Health Workers is implemented.

Adviser to Princess Muna, Ruwaida Maaytah, participated in several panel sessions that examined the importance of protection and investment in human resources and the workforce in the health sector.
