AMMAN — HRH Princess Haya, wife of HH Sheikh Mohammed Ben Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president and prime minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai, has been awarded the French National Order of the Legion of Honour.
Princess Haya was awarded the medal, France’s highest distinction, in recognition of her efforts in support of equestrian sports worldwide, besides her distinguished charity work and humanitarian relief efforts at the international level.
French Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development Laurent Fabius presented the princess with the medal on behalf of French President Francois Hollande at a ceremony in the Prefecture of Caen, the main host city of the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games 2014.
Princess Haya expressed her appreciation, saying: “This recognition carries special significance for me because of the long-standing connections between France and the UAE — connections built on shared commitments to peace, social justice and respect for the dignity of all people.”
