Princess Dina Mired receives ‘Arab Woman of the Year Award 2018’

AMMAN — HRH Princess Dina Mired, president of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) was awarded the prestigious “Arab Woman of the Year Award 2018” for her “achievements in global leadership in cancer control”. 

Princess Dina was recognised at a high-profile event in London for her exceptional efforts in the global fight against cancer and for her election as the first Arab to head the largest and most prestigious cancer fighting organisation that of UICC in 2018.

Prior to that, she led the King Hussein Cancer Foundation (KHCF) in Jordan as director general and CEO for 15 years. Also, she led, as honorary chairperson, the Jordan Breast Cancer Programme from its inception in 2006 till 2016.

The Arab Women of the Year Award cermony was held for the fourth consecutive time to honour and recognise Arab women who have made a noteworthy impact in different areas of societies; not only the lives of everyone in their communities, but also around the globe. 

Princess Dina thanked the organisers, saying: “Words cannot express how honoured I am to receive this prestigious award amongst the other notable Arab women tonight. I humbly receive this honour on behalf of all cancer patients and on behalf of every Arab woman who worked, fought hard and excelled in every field, forging the way ahead for all our daughters in the future”. 

She added: “I applaud all your efforts in highlighting and recognising the achievements of Arab women and reminding decision makers that there will be no sustainable development without the active participation of our women.  Whether we like it or not, women hold up half the sky!”

Organised by the London Arabia Organisation, the event is held annually and supported by the mayor of London. High-profile figures attended the event, including politicians, ambassadors, journalists and social media influencers.
