Princess Dana Firas elected vice president of ICOMOS

AMMAN — HH Princess Dana Firas was elected as Vice President of the World Council on Monuments and Sites/ICOMOS International for 2023-2026.

The elections were held at the General Assembly meeting, held in Sydney, Australia, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Princess Dana, who chairs ICOMOS-Jordan, obtained more than 62 per cent of the total votes.

Princess Dana has focused on the importance of building and enabling capabilities of ICOMOS national bodies, especially in the Arab region, due to the relevance of these bodies’ effective role in heritage protection, and empowering these committees with experts, professionals and specialists.

In her address, Princess Dana stressed the importance of participation and involvement in the scientific committees emanating from ICOMOS International, calling for increasing the number of experts and professionals, especially from the Arab world, which includes experts working in the field of heritage protection as members of the scientific committees.

Princess Dana is a global advocate for protecting and preserving heritage. She was appointed a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador in June 2017 in appreciation of her commitment to protecting and preserving heritage as pillars of sustainable development and her contribution to responsible tourism and community participation.
