AMMAN — Twenty-one university students from Mafraq’s Um Al Quttein area have benefitted from the Goodwill Campaign’s assistance to pursue their education, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Wednesday.
The support came as part of the campaign implemented by the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development to help underprivileged students.
HRH Princess Basma, president of the Goodwill Campaign’s higher committee, on Wednesday visited the Shrufat Women Society in Emkeifteh village in Mafraq, 80km northeast of Amman, where she had a first-hand look at the programmes and products of the local community.
The princess discussed with a number of women means to enhance their role in the community, as well as finding suitable jobs for them, according to Petra.
Princess Basma handed a financial support package to a number of female university students to establish income-generating projects.
HRH stressed the campaign’s keenness on tackling social development issues in cooperation with its partners to mitigate poverty and unemployment and support women and the youth.
For their part, the local community representatives and officials outlined the economic challenges their region, mainly the lack of job generating projects.
Princess Basma also visited two families whose houses were renovated and furnished under the campaign’s programme “safe house”.
She later presented financial support to Um Al Quttein’s sports club and visited a kindergarten, where she distributed garments and toys to children.
The campaign’s volunteers have distributed food parcels to 250 families, according to Petra.
