AMMAN — HRH Prince Hassan, president of the Arab Thought Forum, on Saturday highlighted the importance of military ifta departments in spreading tolerance and coexistence.
Attending the concluding session of the 34th annual conference of the Military Iftaa Department, the Prince noted that the absence of “shura” (in English “consultation”) among the various Islamic schools was the main reason behind the emergence of sub-identities at the expense of the wider, inclusive Islamic identity, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Prince Hassan also underlined the importance of empowering and rehabilitating imams and preachers to be a model in strengthening the national identity and citizenship, stressing the need for new religious leaders with deep knowledge of the sacred and secular sciences who can build bridges between the Islamic and the humanist cultures, according to Petra.
The Prince also called for reconsidering and improving contemporary Islamic discourse in order to make it deeper and better capable of comprehending the society and its current affairs, and more focused on the values that make life more open and inclusive to all segments of the society, Petra reported.
