Power cuts scheduled around Jordan for maintenance — distribution companies

AMMAN – Several areas in the Kingdom will witness scheduled power cuts on Friday, Sunday and Monday for maintenance work ahead of winter. 

Three electricity companies supplying Amman, and the northern and the southern regions of the Kingdom, announced the planned outages in a paid advertisement in the Thursday issues of Arabic dailies.

The Jordan Electric Power Company
(JEPCO) — which distributes electricity to Amman, Zarqa, Salt and Madaba — announced that the Jabal Amman area between the 3rd and 4th circles will witness a power cut on Friday between 8am and 4pm. 

The company said technical teams will perform annual maintenance work in that area and clear trees and branches entangled with power lines, adding that JEPCO will be working in cooperation with the Agriculture Ministry. 

The maintenance is in preparation for tough weather conditions expected this winter, according to JEPCO. 

The Irbid District Electricity Company (IDEC), which serves the northern governorates of Irbid, Mafraq, Ajloun and Jerash, in addition to some areas in Balqa, also announced scheduled power cuts for Sunday. 

IDEC said that several parts of Irbid city will be without electricity from 9am until 11am, while other power cuts in some areas outside the city will take place from 9:30am until noon. 

Power outages are also scheduled in Mafraq and Ajloun on Sunday, the company said.

The Electricity Distribution Company also published an advertisement informing its subscribers in the southern governorate of Karak that several villages will be without power between 10am and noon on Monday. 

In addition to Karak, the company supplies electricity to Tafileh, Maan, Aqaba and the Jordan Valley (from Himmeh in the north, to the Dead Sea in the south) and in eastern areas of the Kingdom such as Rweished, Risheh, Azraq and Safawi, according to its website.

Earlier this month, power cuts were reported in several areas of the Kingdom due to heavy rain in the central and northern regions.
