AMMAN — Police on Thursday said they are questioning a man who reportedly stabbed and killed his sister in the Jordan Valley earlier in the day, according to senior officials.

The victim received multiple stab wounds to different parts of her body allegedly by her brother, Police Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi said.

“Our initial investigations with the suspect indicated that the stabbing incident occurred following a family dispute,” Sartawi told The Jordan Times.

The police official added that the suspect was arrested shortly after the stabbing incident.

“Investigators also sieved a knife that we believe was used in the stabbing incident,” according to Sartawi.

A senior judicial source told The Jordan Times that Criminal Court Prosecutor Imad Ghweiri was notified of the murder incident and will start questioning the suspect over the weekend.

“Ghweiri will also summon family members to learn more about the circumstances surrounding the murder,” the senior judicial source said.

The Criminal Court prosecutor also ordered investigators to send the knife seized at the crime scene to the Forensic and Laboratories Department for further examination, the senior judicial source said.

“Forensic experts also collected blood and tissue samples from the victim for further analysis,” the senior judicial source added.

The victim’s body was transferred to the National Institute of Forensic Medicine for an official autopsy, according to a press statement by the Public Security Directorate.

Meanwhile, the suspect was ordered detained by Ghweiri at a correctional and rehabilitation centre for 15 days pending further investigations, the senior judicial source said.
