AMMAN — The Criminal Court prosecutor on Monday began questioning a man who reportedly robbed and murdered a woman in Ramtha District a day earlier, official sources said.
The victim was reportedly found stabbed to death at her home by her family members, Police Spokesperson Lt Col. Amer Sartawi said.
“A special task force was immediately formed to follow up on the murder,” Sartawi told The Jordan Times.
Investigations led detectives to become suspicious of a man whom the victim knew, the police official added.
Upon summoning the suspect, Sartawi maintained, he reportedly “confessed to murdering the woman because he planned to rob her”.
The police official would not reveal the nature of the robbery or any other details citing investigation confidentiality.
The Criminal Court prosecutor has summoned several witnesses, including the victim’s friends and family members for further questioning, a second senior official said.
The suspect was ordered detained by the Criminal Court prosecutor for 15 days pending further investigation into the incident, according to a statement by the Public Security Department (PSD).
